Our gender-neutral nursery is complete!

I have been so excited to reveal this nursery. This baby, and this room, have been a long time in the making and it still feels surreal to have baby #2 here, less than 6 months after his big brother.

Getting to this moment was the fight of my life. A fight that exhausted me, made me question my faith, and broke our hearts for years… A fight that a lot of the time looked like surrender.

Last summer I had truly gotten to the point where I started to accept it may never happen for us. For many days I figured all the pain and waiting and fighting for my family would amount to nothing on this side of heaven.

But God. He writes our stories in such a way that only He can get the glory. And the whole time I thought he was withholding from me, he was working. He was preparing me for not just one but two. A double portion. He doubled the size of our family in just six months (adoption + bio). I am undone 😭🌈

Crib Set Up

With our oldest, Noah, we found out the gender ahead of time and did a green accent wall with some natural accents and pops of rust throughout his nursery. But for this pregnancy, we decided to be surprised by the gender. So we wanted to choose neutral colors that could work for a girl or boy.

Originally we planned to do something to the wall behind the crib, but when the painters came in to do the room, they surprised us by painting that wall a different color. We liked it so much that we decided to keep it!

Another fun addition to the space is the lamb rocker. We actually picked this out before knew that this baby was going to be named Shepherd.

Daybed

I’m so glad we added this daybed. Not only is it beautiful, but it has really come in handy for nighttime. We got this so that we’d have another bed on our main level for when my mom stays overnight to help with the babies.

Matt has also slept there some nights to catch up on sleep and so that he can get up with Noah in the early mornings without waking me as we’re tag-teaming two babes! It’s been so helpful to have and we know it’ll come in handy as the boys grow.

Dresser

I wanted something simple and versatile and IKEA had exactly what I was looking for at a budget-friendly price. We just swapped out the knobs to make it look a little more custom and I love the way it came together!

Details

We had a blank spot on a wall that I wasn’t sure what to do with. It needed a little something to feel complete but with the daybed and glider, there wasn’t a lot of room for much.

A simple Walmart ladder shelf with some meaningful touches filled the spot perfectly without feeling too busy.

For not having much of a plan going into it, I really love the way this all came together. It’s warm and inviting and reminds me of a cozy latte. And now that he’s here, we’ve added a couple of subtle muted blue pops to make it a little more boyish without being over the top.
