I get questions all the time about organizing and managing life – especially with a busy schedule. Although in the last year, I’ve really made a valiant effort to simplify and streamline my time and home, I’ll be honest and say I’m no expert at this whole thing (though I have come a long way!). So, that’s why I brought in my friend, Desirae — a wife, mom, and host of the Minimalish Podcast — to help us out.
But here’s what I realized as we chatted: Neither of us just woke up one day and organized or simplified our lives on the spot. It’s taken time and baby steps day by day, and that’s why I love Desirae’s grace-based approach to minimalism, it focuses on “making room for what matters,” and accepting that we can’t say yes to everything just to live for other people’s values.
Let It Go
Let’s be real. Everyone gets overwhelmed, myself included. With so much happening in my life at home and in my business, it can be difficult to find balance sometimes. Desirae takes time to really discover what we over commit to because our external environment is typically the start of our internal reaction.
So I had to know what clicked for Desirae when she decided to change her lifestyle to a more minimalistic way of living — because everyone has that “defining moment,” if you will — and she not only shared that moment in her life, but also explained that being more intentional helps with the way that she reacts to those around her, especially to her daughter.
Desirae asks herself, “How can I be love to her?”
And tries to live her daily life through this value.
The Four Key Questions
Desirae shared the KEY questions that transition to a more minimal lifestyle because I just kept wondering, what’s next?! How do I know if I need all of those cluttered kitchen utensils, and which parts of my external environment are the real issues?
But the most important part is knowing what season of ACTUAL life I’m experiencing right now, because being Minimal-ish looks different for everyone, and at different times.
She unpacks the four simple yet powerful questions for me (and now, for you!) in this episode.
Live Minimal(ish)ly
Alright, so are you ready to join us on this journey to live a Minimal-ish life and answer the key questions for yourself? Want to know what Desirae really means by “make room for what matters” and how you can implement that in your life?
