Thinking about pivoting in your creative career? Terrified of what your customers or audience might think? Unsure how to go about it?
Well, I’ve got good news and bad news for you.
The bad news? If you know it’s time to pivot, it’s not going to be easy but it’s going to be worth it.
The good news? …but it will be worth it! Pivoting is a sign of growth and while you don’t want to move too quickly, you also don’t want to stay stagnant.
Over the years, I’ve basically become a Professional Pivoter. I mean how does someone go from Etsy shop owner to national bestselling author without taking necessary pivots? You don’t. You have to keep your hands open, evolve, pivot, and grow.
But here’s the thing: Even the biggest pivots are a series micro-movements, not a fast 180 degree turns (even if they feel like it!).
I haven’t always done this as well as I could have. At times, I’ve moved too quickly. Other times, I’ve moved too slowly or not communicated well at all.
Now, I don’t regret a single pivot I’ve made in my career. Every single one was a step of faith that got me to where I am today.
That said, I’ve learned many lessons about the art of pivoting well, and I was able to share about this on my friends’ business podcast recently!
There was so much positive feedback from their community regarding the helpfulness (and relatability) of this episode that I asked them for the audio to reshare on my podcast with MY community!
They agreed and so that’s what you’re hearing on the show today — the audio from my interview on their podcast! Instead of me doing the interviewing, I’m the one being interviewed in this episode.
Perhaps the strongest lesson I’ve learned (though trial and error) is that whenever you pivot in your creative business, it’s important to picture your audience or customer base as a bunch of people in the bed of a pick up truck.
If you turn the pick up truck at a 90 degree sharp turn, they’ll all fly out. But if you take it wide and slow, they’ll stay in (or most will, anyway).
This and many more lessons await you in this value-packed episode.
Can’t wait to hear what you think!
