Chances are, you’ve probably heard the term “BPA” thrown around a lot.

You might have noticed on your grocery run that certain bottles or even cans advertise that they’re “BPA-free” or you might have come across an article about the dangers of BPA while you were researching something.

Maybe you heard about it and rolled your eyes because it seems like everything nowadays causes health issues and, well, you’re too tired to keep up with it all.

Or maybe you’ve been making an effort to switch over to non-toxic products, but reducing your BPA exposure seems overwhelming on top of everything else you’re doing to build a healthier home.

Well, the truth is that BPA’s are indeed a pretty toxic chemical found in plastics. Studies have linked BPA to serious health problems, from heart disease, liver disease to developmental problems in the brain and hormone issues.

But rest, assured, reducing your exposure to BPA is really not as difficult as you might think.

There are a lot of simple, affordable, and sometimes even cheaper, ways to do this that will not only steward your health, but also your budget.

And in this episode of the SHE podcast, I’m gonna share 7 easy ways that you can start reducing your BPA exposure today.

Just remember: the goal is not perfection. The goal is progress.

You’re not going to be able to remove your exposure completely, because there are some things that just aren’t in your control, but you can make an effort to reduce exposure where we can.

7 Ways to Reduce Your BPA Exposure

Without further ado, here are 7 easy ways to reduce your BPA exposure:

1. Switch from plastic tupperware to glass containers.

You can get these from Target or Amazon. In fact, these are often a better investment since they won’t warp and get nasty in your dishwasher, they’re better for your health, and they last longer.

2. Swap out your plastic cutting boards with wood or bamboo ones instead.

You may have to hand wash these, but it’ll be worth it.

3. Instead of using K cups, opt for a different form of coffee or a different kind of coffee machine.

Since K cups are plastic containers that get heated up to make the coffee, that heat can release the BPA in the plastic and transfer it to your coffee. Another alternative is to switch to a glass pour over coffee maker.

4. Swap out your plastic cups with glass or stainless steel ones.

You can also find glass straws to use for smoothies or other drinks.

5. Try not to heat up food or drinks in plastic.

I used to buy steamable bags of frozen veggies and heat up in the magazine, while still in the bag. The problem with this is that the heat can release the BPA chemicals. So, whenever you can, try to heat up your food in a BPA-free bowl or container.

6. Work on limiting the amount of canned goods that you eat.

If you can, try to at least shop for cans that have BPA-free linings.

7. Use reusable water bottles instead of plastic ones.

Look into getting a big glass or stainless steel cup or bottle that you can use each day.
