How to Stay Determined When You Don’t Feel Good Enough with Kamilah Marshall

I'm Jordan!
I'm a mama by birth and adoption after years of recurrent pregnancy loss with a passion for helping other women support their health and well-being on their motherhood journeys.
hey there

Sometimes we receive really, exceptional feedback that helps propel us along further to our dreams.

And sometimes we receive really, damaging and destructive feedback that can stop us in our tracks.

Either way: keep going. Keep going after your goals.

Easier said than done, I know.

Words hold power, certainly, but you get to decide just how much.

You see, the negative comment can turn into more fuel. More passion. More drive. To attain your end goal. To achieve your next breakthrough.

Will this be a process? Absolutely. Will it be worth it? Absolutely.

And no one knows this quite as well as my new friend, Kamilah Marshall. I could go on and on about all the things this girl has accomplished from singing on Broadway to releasing her own album to performing as a back up vocalist for Taylor Swift (fan girling over here) – but she didn’t get there without her fair share of emotional work and mindset shifting.

Kamilah always loved to sing, but when she was told at the young age of 11 that she just ‘wasn’t good enough’ – those words had a lasting effect on her. For YEARS I might add. It was the tape that replayed in her mind. The limiting belief painted into her thoughts.

But she was able to take that feeling of insecurity and turn it into a deeper drive toward her goals. And so can you. Her biggest piece of advice on this?

The next milestone won’t make you confident. Find your confidence before you receive outside affirmation.

And I couldn’t agree with her more. Let your internal drive outweigh the fear of stepping into something new.

So, the next time someone gives you a less than ideal piece of ‘advice’ – filter it, sister. Because your gifts are much too valuable to be squelched by one false comment.
