We often hear about women who are crushing it in the workplace and breaking glass ceilings, following their ambitions and  gaining an impressive status or position. And we think that must be what success looks like.

And while there’s nothing wrong with following your ambitions (I followed my ambitions to start my own business and become an author), there’s a lot more to being a successful woman than just status or position.

In fact, Proverbs 31, a passage in the Bible that teaches us what a virtuous women is like, has a lot to say about what a successful woman looks like. It mentions certain qualities of a successful woman that I think we sometimes forget about when we consider what success should look like.

These sometimes forgotten qualities of are important to remember because without them, we may end up chasing our idea of success and wind up burnt out from constantly working and striving.

So in this episode of the SHE podcast, I’m diving into 5 traits of a successful women that we sometimes forget about.

(BTW, if you haven’t listened to it yet, I also did an episode on 5 things the church forgot to teach us about virtuous women, which also delves into Proverbs 31 and is a great precursor to this episode. Make sure you check it out!)

5 Forgotten Traits of a Successful Woman

1. Successful women ask for help. (Prov. 31:15)

It’s true. Successful women don’t try to do everything by themselves (as tempting as that may be sometimes). Doing it alone only leads to burnout. Instead, they wisely ask for help, delegate tasks, and lean into their community and the team of supportive people who surround them.

2. They are wise, not just smart. (Prov. 31:26)

While it’s a great and important thing to use your mind and intelligence to advance in a career, what’s just as important is to use wisdom to guide your decisions. Book smarts and street smarts both matter.

3. Successful women care for their home and manage it well. (Prov. 31:27)

Breaking glass ceilings is awesome and impressive, but our role in the home is just as important and just as full of purpose – even if it’s not always as impressive or shiny. There is so much beauty and honor in stewarding your home.

4. They honor and prioritize family and community. (Prov. 31:11-12; 26-27)

This isn’t just an old-fashioned idea. This is wise. Strengthening and continuing to grow relationships should be a priority just as important as increasing your profit, running your business, or crushing it in the workplace.

5. They glorify and fear the Lord. (Prov. 31:30)

Last but not least, a successful woman is one who honors the Lord in all she does. She is less concerned with her status or position and is more concerned with the mission driving her ambitions.
